Chronic pain in the low back area is a prevalent condition for treatments in the massage field. Low back pain can stem from a number of different reasons. In this course we focus on addressing the low back as a whole to include muscle structures from the lumbar region of the spine to the sacral region. We will be applying massage techniques to the quatrains lumborum, latissimus dorsi, gluteal muscles and transverse abdominals.

  • Identifying the Muscles Involved in Low Back Pain

  • Potential Causes of Low Back Pain

  • Assessment Movements 

  • Techniques for Low Back Release in the Prone Position

  • Techniques for Low Back Release in the Supine Position

  • Techniques for Low Back Release in the Side-lying Position

  • Active and Passive ROM

  • Side-lying Techniques for Pelvic Tilts

  • Contraindications

  • Body Mechanics and Bolstering and Draping

  • Communication and Terminology

  • Follow-up Care

  • Measuring Progress

A non-refundable deposit of $140 is required to hold your spot. Once you complete the registration process, a confirmation email will be sent to you. The remaining tuition balance is due 2 weeks prior to class. Upon completion of this course, you will receive 16 credit hours, which you can apply to your NYS LMT registration renewal, NCBTMB certification, AMTA or ABMB renewal, and Florida State Massage Therapy renewal.
